Nurse. Teach. Reach.’s journey officially started when we kicked off the first of our programs at B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital (BPKMCH) in Nepal. With the close collaboration and cooperation of hospital administrators, senior nurses at BPKMCH and NTR volunteers, we developed a Preceptor Training Program.
BPKMCH is a 184 bed cancer hospital with over 160 nurses employed. In a country where medical care is difficult to obtain, having a dedicated oncology hospital means patients who would normally have no treatment options now have a chance at gaining quality of life or possibly a cure. BPKMCH provides multiple treatment options including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgical intervention and hospice care.
Critical Care Program
Patan Hospital and Grande International Hospital
Advanced critical care nursing skills are desperately needed for those working within Intensive Care Units in Nepal. At present there are no direct courses for nurses working in these areas so education is sparse and often inadequate.
Nurse Teach Reach plans to work with 2 hosptials concurrently, enlisting the preceptor program but also adding in specialist ICU nursing skills.
This program includes:
This is a great opportunity for experienced volunteer ICU nurses to share knowledge, develop protocols and improve nursing standards.
Emergency Nurse Development Program
NTR is commencing our ED Nursing Program in 2016 after an initial pilot program at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in 2015. Take a look at our dedicated ED Nursing Page for more information.
Travel To Nepal
Nepal is a diverse, colourful and wonderful country. With enough activities to keep you occupied year round, there is something for everyone! You can find yourself trekking to Mt Everest Base Camp, or on the Annapurna Circuit, or visiting the wild jungle for a Rhino spotting safari. Pokhara offers a relaxing chill out by the lake with incredible paragliding and Kathmandu has it all! But its the Nepali people who make the experience unforgettable!
Nepal really is a travellers paradise and a great place to kick of NTR's programs!
Why not combine a bit of travel whilst volunteering? We want volunteers to experience all that Nepal has to offer whils volunteering with NTR so taking some time to explore is encouraged!
