We are now in our final week of teaching here. Reflecting upon my time here so far, I am overwhelmed with the things I have seen, experienced and learnt. Not to mention a little more nimble on the dance floor thanks to some dance lessons I received from the ICU nurses here on a doctor/nurse social night!
When we initiated the ICU program here in Kathmandu we had some pretty high expectations of what we would teach at both the Hospitals we were collaborating with. The two hospitals we have been working with are at either end of Kathmandu’s healthcare spectrum and the city!
In my time at Grande hospital we have implemented a preceptor program as well as given numerous educational presentations on head to toe assessment to the staff of Grande’s intensive care unit and the hospital’s executives. We have also provided bedside educational sessions within the unit and made, what feels like, a gazillion educational posters, quizzes & logbooks for the nurses. At Patan hospital, due to the higher workload on the nurses we have focused on providing bedside education & support.
